10 Daily Habits to Become Smarter and Improve Brain Power
Cut back on TV time:
Stop wasting time watching long shows. By wasting hours watching shows, you do not earn something productive. When watching TV, your brain enters passive mode, so it's best for your health to keep it involved and engaged in productive activities.
Ted Talk:
Hearing Ted talks every day. There is a lot that you can learn from insightful persons who share brilliant ideas and discoveries. There are conversations ranging from 5-20 minutes, so pick one every day. You should have learned more by the end of the month.
Research:
Get into the habit of finding out on your own about things. On the internet, study thoroughly on subjects that concern you and how things work. For authentic knowledge, you can use Google Scholar. Every day, learn something new and devote at least 30 minutes to it. Also, when you learn more by doing/execution/implementation, share your experience and teach it to others.
Reading:
For your aging brain, reading is necessary and safe, as always said. For example, the Huffington Post, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Reader's Digest & Narrative Magazine, Success Magazine, New York Times, Time Magazine, make it a daily habit, whether it is a book, newspaper article, or online articles. In addition, in the dictionary, look up new words. Download a decent dictionary app to find the meaning of unfamiliar words/expressions and it will be less time-consuming. Once, Oprah Winfrey said that she often preferred to read a book rather than watch TV.
Language:
To get started, you can download some language apps. Learning a new language will make you familiar with various people, cultures, and vocabulary. It opens your eyes to things that are different. It helps to develop communication skills as well.
Online Courses:
This is another way to learn about subjects and to improve your abilities. You can browse through courses and sign up for the one you like, then move on to the next. For this reason, websites such as Coursera, Alison, MIT Open Courses & Khan Academy are excellent. Learn new skills every day and try to use them in real-life situations.
Documentary:
This is another way to substitute for watching shows for long hours. You can use these websites: Documentary Heaven, National Geographic, and Top Documentary Films to gain a better understanding of the world.
People:
Go out with people, hang out with them. For others that are smarter, hang out. Be available for new people to meet. Get others to know. Every person comes from a different context, viewpoint, and experience. From them, you will learn a lot.
Reduce social media use:
Restrict the amount of time spent using social media, much like television. Better to spend the time watching a Ted talk or reading.
Exercise: This can be as quick as walking, helping to clear your head and think. It also reduces the risk of illnesses dramatically. If done consistently, it keeps you in good shape, balanced, and protects your beauty. In addition, you eat to live, not the other way around!
